Pinewood Forest Shade Structure

About the Project

Stability provided the structural engineering and construction plans for the foundation and superstructure for two sculptures integrated into a greenspace at the Trilith community (formerly Pinewood Forest) in Fayetteville, Georgia. The massive shade structure is a 2400sf canopy supported by 32 foot tall steel sculpted hands, with internal custom steel truss frames and columns. Design considerations included overturning moment for the double-cantilever butterfly roof, as well as accommodation of the architectural and sculpture finishes for the arms, ceiling, and roof drainage, as well as the hanging display board and potential future AVL equipment. The foundation support for the ear and face sculpture was designed by Stability as well.

This live/work/play development will eventually encompass 935 acres to accompany the prolific Pinewood Studios which has produced many blockbuster movies including Jurassic World: Dominion, and Avengers: Endgame. The European-inspired walkable community is geared towards people in creative careers, and includes housing, businesses, restaurants, and schools. Thoughtfully planned outdoor spaces include 54 acres of forest, landscaped parks, 15 miles of nature trails, and a dog park.
