The Birkdale Village area of Huntersville, North Carolina has experienced rapid growth within the past few years. For their recent development, we designed eight free-standing commercial buildings sited within the Village’s generous Grove green-space. This includes three one-story retail stores with heavy timber framing – including one with a roof terrace – and four one-story retail kiosks with light wood framing and extended cantilevered flying roofs. The concierge building is steel post and beam framed, with wood joists, decking, and wood-framed stage. This new community-focused area has a stage roof built around two full-grown trees, and a colorful, geometric mural created by Durham-based artist Martha Clippinger.
