REI Athens

About the Project

Stability Engineering provided the structural design on a retail redevelopment project for a new REI Co-op location in Athens, Georgia. This project entailed the demolition of an existing wing at the end of a shopping center to make way for a new building shell adhering to REI brand standards. Project features include a steel-framed roof system with CMU perimeter walls over slab on grade, and a mix of shallow and deep foundations abutting the existing building. A tall retaining wall was required to level the site for the building pad, to add a service entrance with dumpster enclosure, and to allow for an underground rainwater detention system. We also provided expedited Construction Administration services to help fast-track the construction and deliver the building shell on an 8-month timeline from groundbreaking to tenant move in.
