About the Project
This project was honored with an Award of Excellence by the Design-Build Institute of America in 2025.
For this school renovation, our team worked to appropriate clerestory space by constructing a new second-floor structure to accommodate additional classroom space. The new floor was framed with structural steel to ensure long-term durability and flexibility in layout.
This project presented unique challenges due to the constraints of the existing building. We carefully designed the framing system to minimize drift and avoid conflict with the existing structure. The new framing was engineered to remain structurally independent from the original pre-engineered metal building frame, to prevent load-sharing and mitigate long-term movement or interaction between the systems.
