This project retrofitted a two-story addition to a ~1000sf footprint, expanding the clubhouse’s elevated dining area with an open-sided structure to provide better views of the golf course and surrounding mountain range, and to preserve a section of the golf cart path at the ground level. The foundation work was complicated by steep site grading, shallow bedrock challenges, and excavations for the new foundations buttressed against the existing foundation walls. A structural system of composite steel and concrete was selected to optimize materials and minimize framing depth, which preserved the clear height of the golf cart path at the lower level. Modifications to the interior and exterior framing were made to the existing clubhouse, including a timber-framed entry stair and a feature bar with overhead shelving and decorative architectural ceiling features.
