Dogwood Forest

Dogwood Forest of Acworth is a new 93-unit assisted living community featuring personalized care for seniors including separate apartments, walking paths, and courtyard water feature, as well as bistros and wellness centers. The Memory Care building is a one story building consisting of light gauge metal roof trusses with load bearing light gauge walls and a slab on grade. The Assisted Living building is a 3 story ‘L’ shaped building with large open gathering spaces on the ground floor. The structural design consists of light gauge metal roof trusses, load bearing light gauge walls and joist framing, steel transfer beams at the 2nd floor, and slab on grade supported by geopiers. The Assisted Living building had several design challenges including a non-stacking load path to accommodate open gathering areas, exterior patio space on upper floors, and poor quality soils which required geopier foundation support. Stability Engineering was able to work with Pimsler Hoss Architects and the rest of the design team to provide construction drawings in a very tight timeframe while also providing a cost effective design for the owner.
