Clayton County International Park PATH

The Clayton County International Park was home to the 1996 Olympic beach volleyball games, and features many activities including a water park, picnic areas, fishing, off-road hiking/bicycle trails, tennis courts, senior center, and playgrounds. As part of the design team, Stability created a multi-use concrete trail that connects different areas of the park and takes trail users back through the woods and over the lake. Stability designed a custom steel framed curved bridge at the north side of the park where multiple tributary creeks come into the lake. The design consisted of four 50ft spans and a 100ft trail radius; curved steel beams with custom connections to each other and the support bents ensured that the trail did not overly deflect between supports. Concrete abutment walls and mid-span bent walls were designed strategically to land between creeks and drainage areas. Helical piers were used in the low areas with soft/wet soils to support the foundation walls. Stability also designed a curved wooden boardwalk crossing the fishing lake, connecting the senior center with a lakeside picnic area. The boardwalk consists of driven wood piles, timber framing, and wood handrails.
